My grandfather was a pharmacist for Thrifty Drugstore in Southern California. Besides the usual items, Thrifty was known for 25-cent ice cream cones, with lots of different flavors. I loved when we could take a stroll the eight blocks to Papa’s work, pick up a couple of chocolate chip ice cream cones and a bag of oatmeal raisin cookies, and walk back to the house, trying to keep the ice cream from dripping all over the pavement. I loved the spiced cookies with the cold ice cream but was not a fan of the raisins. This recipe is derived from a family favorite for oatmeal raisin cookies, but I’ve replaced the raisins with chocolate chips so you don’t have to fling them away!
